Red Cornish Serpentine is a rare metamorphic rock found exclusively on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, England. 

This stone is 400 million years old and formed during the Devonian period by the hydrothermal metamorphism of peridotite. Its appearance is characterised by snakeskin tones of red, green and grey. 

It was famously favoured by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert during the 19th Century for polished decorative items. The industry later declined due to competition with tougher and more widely available stones like marble.
