This pendant is carved from a piece of fossil stromatolite from Cotham, Bristol.
Stromatolites are our oldest known ancestors. In fact, all life on earth has descended from these ancient life forms. Colonies of microscopic photosynthesising organisms called Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) build these biochemical structures of layered rock.
This particular specimen is relatively young at 220 million years old (upper Triassic). The oldest date back to 3.5 billion years ago and others live on the planet in small numbers today.
This necklace is complete with handmade, waxed hemp rope cordage and an English oak toggle.
Pendant dimensions:
47mm x 8mm x 5mm
Hang Length:
300mm
