SELGĀ

£42.00

An arrowhead made of stone from Graig Lwyd Neolitic ‘Axe Factory’ - an ourcrop of microdiorite atop an extinct volcano above the coastal town of Penmaenmawr, Conwy, North Wales. This site was a hot-spot during the Stone Age for stone tool making. Microdiorite stone has similar microcrystaline properties to flint, meaning that it fractures the same way and therefore can be worked to a sharp edge. It is however, much harder to work than flint.
The arrowhead has been made with the traditional method of ‘pressure flaking’ using the tip of a deer antler to break off hundreds of little flakes of stone.

Alongside the arrowhead are two real (ethically sourced) canines belonging to a British red fox, the hunter of the forest. The red fox in Welsh folklore is seen as a wise, cunning ‘spirit guide’ capable of bridging worlds.

This necklace is complete with handmade, naturally stabilised hemp rope cordage and an (ethically sourced) British red fox vertebra toggle.

Pendant dimensions:
28mm x 20mm x 3mm

Hang length:
360mm

SELGĀ - ‘hunt’ in Proto-Celtic (reconstructed language)
